Eco House

House at Ireland's first Eco Village in Cloughjordan, Co. Tipperary

Completed 2011

The 67 acre eco-village site in Cloughjordan incorporates houses, a working farm, woodland, solar- and wood- powered community heating system, market square and playgrounds.

The new village joins the existing village of Cloughjordan, making use of, and supporting local services such as shops, schools and the train station.

Rather than having separate and enclosed gardens, villagers are encouraged to keep their garden space communal and open. Our three-storey house therefore includes a large private open space on the second floor.

The house is of timber frame construction and uses spray-soy insulation which has the benefits of being a natural affordable product which provides both insulation and air-tightness.

The house is semi-d and Open Architects worked in collaboration with the design team for the neighbouring house.
