Ladies Island

House Extension & Renovation, Co. Tipperary

Completed 2007

210m²

Existing stone barn and cottage sit at right angles to each other and a new kitchen, sun-room and bedroom are inserted at their intersection. The thick walls of the cottage are reinterpreted as 'fin' walls in the extension allowing light and views while retaining privacy and enclosure. A corrugated iron-clad box cantilevers over the hillside, allowing an upstairs bedroom with views of the winter sunrise. A second box adds a bathroom within the old barn roof.
